Creative Writing Prompt Project: Prompt 1 – Unravel

Welcome to week one of our expressive creativity prompt project. For these prompts, I personally place an emphasis on film or play writing — but anything goes. Use these to fuel any creative endeavor. Feel free to review the project here.

I have a little romantic twinge for old crafts. Things we no longer have to do but we might choose to — sewing, knitting, the like. It makes me think of the history of women, of this shared experience passed down (and for some of us, hi hello, forgotten) through generations. A crackling fire, a ball of yarn — it makes me yearn for other times.

And so, your prompt for today…

Unravel.

Who might unravel? What kind of person or character comes apart at the seams? Or maybe it’s not a character moment at all – perhaps it’s more literal than that. Or could things are more about restitching yourself back together after a knotty situation? What if the opposite is true: does the world suddenly make more sense?

Craft your 5-10 minute play or film over the weekend and keep the idea ‘unravel’ in your mind.

Post your responses below in the comments or to our Discord by Monday & I’ll check ’em out!
