What do you think your greatest strength as a creative is? What skills would you recommend honing?
I’m also not bashful about it; why demure when you have a skill or a talent?
Smart isn’t really a SKILL — and if I’m honest, it’s also my biggest weakness as an actor. You don’t want to see your actor think; they should be in the moment. Sometimes I can get in my own way, you can see MY intellect and not the character’s. It’s something I work on in every single class I take. It’s great for writer-me and probably director/producer-me where instincts are important but it’s less visible than as an actor.
I think I’m generally pretty good at managing people too. Never thrown a stapler! Not once! I think that’s probably the best thing to work on; can you effectively communicate with others? do you know when to shut up? do you know when to stand up? So much of this industry is collaborative; you’re never going to sit in a room by yourself and never have anyone touch your art so you better figure out how to play ball with the people around you. And everyone has their own language; being able to speak those different languages is a great skill to have and will definitely set you apart!
