Creative Writing Prompt Project: Prompt 12 – The First Frost

First, happy NANOWRIMO to anyone participating! Hopefully you can use today’s exercise in your writing somehow. This week, we’re embracing the prose-writing-format because …well, it’s NaNo!

The first frost of a year was traditionally the region’s first collective breath hold. Crops are brought in, anything still outside would likely not make it; the fast-paced autumnal work was done and the area prepared to retreat for the winter.

But what is that akin to now? When do we take our collective pause, what gives us the knowledge that life must take a break and we must fall back indoors?

For this week’s work, write about our modern first frost — whatever that may be. Explore what it means to us now, what we have lost by falling out of an agricultural rhythm. What we’ve gained.

Use these to fuel any creative endeavor. Feel free to review the project here.
