Creative Writing Prompt Project: Prompt 6 – The Other Side

Today, I want to explore going beyond the outrage and finding our empathy via creativity.

The nature of social media and clickbait is that they encourage us to see one direction. No matter which way you politically lean, it’s easy to retweet an image with outrage. It’s harder to ask why something is so.

So this week, I encourage us to find an image that someone in your network shared to prompt outrage. Find the story behind that image. Craft the dialogue. Who said what. How did we wind up with this picture?

And then do the same for an image circulating in corners that you don’t agree with. What more can you find in that image? What background do these characters share? Or not?

Art is the quest for empathy, perhaps we can find a little in our own fury.

Post your responses below in the comments or to our Discord by Monday & I’ll check ’em out!

Just a reminder… For these prompts, I personally place an emphasis on film or play writing — but anything goes. Use these to fuel any creative endeavor. Feel free to review the project here.
